We hope that reading these accounts will inspire people to be mindful of all mothers and raise awareness of the inequalities within maternity care.

How did you feel after having a baby?

'I found it hard adjusting to motherhood. I began to feel my mental health worsen 3 weeks before baby arrived. I found the midwives were good.'

'My experience with my midwife has been clinical, to the point and out the door.'

'With breastfeeding I felt like there was little support and every time I got mastitis I was advised to stop breastfeeding and offered tablets to dry up the milk.'

Raising your voice

Staff who came in saw my headscarf and kept asking ‘Do you speak English?’ and do you understand what I am saying? If they made an effort to glance at my notes, they would have seen that I didn’t need a translator.
